چکیده

Phylogeny, the tree of life Essential molecular mechanisms as replication and gene expression were found to be similar among the organisms studied so far. This favors the idea that all present day living organisms have evolved from a common ancestor. The relationship is called phylogeny and is represented by a phylogenetic tree.

Molecular Systematics and Evolution of Lacertid Lizards

Harris, D. J.: Molecular systematics and evolution of lacertid lizards. Nat. Croat., Vol. 8, No. 3., 161–180, 1999, Zagreb. In recent years there has been an exponential increase in the amount of published DNA sequences, as it has become one of the most popular sources of data for reconstructing phylogenies. A number of studies have attempted to resolve the relationships of groups of lacertids ...

A tree reconstruction method that is economical in the number of pairwise comparisons used.

A fast method for reconstructing phylogenies from distance data is presented. The method is economical in the number of pairwise comparisons needed. It can be combined with a new phylogenetic alignment procedure to yield an algorithm that gives a complete history of a set of homologous sequences. The method is applicable to very large distance matrices. An auxiliary program was developed that s...

A Corrected Parsimony Criterion for Reconstructing Phylogenies

In phylogenetic analysis, for non-molecular data, particularly morphology, parsimony optimization is the most commonly employed approach. In the past and present application of the parsimony principle, extra step numbers have been added across different characters without proper justification. This practice, however, has caused the impacts of characters to be inflated or deflated without a vali...

A Stochastic Model of Language Evolution That Incorporates Homoplasy and Borrowing

The inference of evolutionary history, whether in biology or in linguistics, is aided by a carefully considered model of the evolutionary process and a reconstruction method which is expected to produce a reasonably accurate estimation of the true evolutionary history when the real data match the model assumptions and are of sufficient quantity. In molecular systematics (i.e., the inference of ...
